Henry Lyde Counts

Submitted by Harvey L. Counts

Attached is the obituary of my g-g-grandfather, Henry Lyde Counts (1821-1896).
The son-in-law mentioned, G. B. Edwards, was George Bright Edwards (1857-1938)
who was married to Henry’s daughter, Sarah Emily “Emma” Counts.

Henry Lyde Counts is interred at the East End Cemetery, Stephenville, Texas.
In 1874 Henry was issued the Rolling “D” cattle brand.

From the Handbook of Texas - online edition:
“COUNTS CREEK. Counts Creek rises five miles northwest of Morgan Mill in northern Erath
County (at 32°25' N, 98°15' W) and runs east for eight miles to its mouth on the North
Paluxy River, 11⁄2 miles east of Morgan Mill (at 32°24' N, 98°09' W). The creek passes
through steep-sloped terrain surfaced by shallow, sandy soil that supports juniper, scattered
oak, and grasses.”
(Counts Creek was named in honor of Henry Lyde Counts an early pioneer of this area)
