William N. Eades

15 Oct 1856 - 18 Mar 1931

Lived in McCool, Mississippi until moving to Texas in 1894.  Boarded the train at Winona, Mississippi to come to Erath County, TX.  Brought his mother Jane with him.  His wife Sarah (Whatley) Eades (April 1863- 07 Jul 1904) died in 1904 5 miles west of Bluff Dale where the family resided.  William married Eliza Davis and moved to Oklahoma in 1920.  He returned to Erath County in 1929 and resided with his son Oscar Napoleon Eades until his death 17 Mar 1931.

William & Sarah (Whatley) Eades were the parents of 11 children, Thomas, Odis, Oscar, Arizonia, Charlie, Elmer, Minnie, Noah, Mary, J. D. & Vernon.

He was the son of Thomas (1817-1892) and Jane (?) Eades (13 Sept 1819-17 Oct 1903).

William & Sarah are buried in Acrea Cemetery, Erath County, Texas with their son Charlie. Jane Eades is buried in Box Pony Creek Cemetery, Erath County, Texas.  Thomas Eades is buried in Mississippi.

Charlie Eades

Son of William Eades (15 Oct 1856-18 Mar 1931) & Sarah (Whatley) Eades (Apr 1863-07 Jul 1904).  He was killed at the age of 16 when a horse fell with him.  He is buried in Acrea Cemetery, Erath County, TX.

Dora Opal Eades

28 Oct 1911 - 16 Dec 2001

Opal was the youngest daughter of Oscar Napoleon (04 Aug 1883-15 Jun 1973) and Jesse Mary (Ramsay) Eades (28 Sept 1885-02 Jul 1970).  She was born in Erath County and lived her childhood and early adulthood in and around Seldon.  She married Kaspar Colquitt Stephens on 26 Feb 1923.  Kasper is the youngest son of William (10 Nov 1866-14 Oct 1919) and Almeda Jane (Logan) Stephens (07 Mar 1869-14 Jan 1944).  She moved with her husband and four surviving children to Arlington, Tarrant Co., TX in 1941 where she lived until moving to Hurst, Tarrant Co., TX in 1999.  She is buried at Moore Memorial Gardens Cemetery beside Kasper in Arlington, Tarrant Co., TX.

John Chesley Gilbreath

Sheriff of Erath County, Texas

John Chesley Gilbreath was born 6 April 1851 in Pope County, Arkansas, to William Henry and Nancy Louisa (Turnbow) Gilbreath. He moved with his family to Erath County, Texas, in 1855. Here, he married Lucy C. Barbee on 13 April 1870. John C. Gilbreath served as Sheriff of Erath County from 22 December 1882 until 11 November 1886. Sheriff Gilbreath was most noted for ending Erath County's era of organized crime. He died on 21 September 1894 in Erath County.
