He taught school in Granbury, Glen Rose, TX and Mansfield, TX as well as Fort Worth, TX. He was Superintendent of Schools for Glen Rose, Texas, Somerville County from 1916 - 1917. He was Superintendent of Schools for Granbury, Texas, Hood County 1918 - 1921. From Granbury, Thomas A. Howard moved to Fort Worth, Texas and taught school for a year or so. His career then took him to Mansfield, TX as Superintendent of Schools from about 1923 to the early 1940s when he retired. He then moved to Fort Worth, TX again and operated a grocery store for a number of years next to his home on Vaughn Ave in Fort Worth, TX.
