PURVES METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH SOUTH

In 1901 or 1902, the old Bynum Methodist Church Building was moved to Purves and was located 100 yards east of the school building. The Church remained at this location until 1904, when the building was sold to the Primitive Baptist folks. They moved it 150 yards north, where it remained and served them for more than twenty years.

On January 16, 1904, the Methodist folks purchased one and one-half acres out of the John Harmon Survey from J.C. Alexander and wife, N.J. The deed was made to W.T. Hancock and John Currier, trustees of Purves Methodist Church. Here a large modern building with steeple and bell was erected.

In 1911 an additional lot was bought from G.S. and T.C. Winn, just west of the church building. L.G. Baldwin and W.T. Hancock were trustees at this time.
