Scedora McKinney Sanders

Submitted by Marian Novian

My grandmother Scedora McKinney born Sept. 9, 1894 in Fannin County, Tx.  She died Apr. 28, 1962 in Breckenridge, Tx.  She is buried in Breckenridge Cemetery, Stephens Co., Tx.  She married George Samuel Sanders in 1921 in Dublin, Erath Co.,  Tx.  George Samuel Sanders was born 7-31-1887 in Caldwell Co, Tx.  He died 11-6-1969 in Breckenridge, Stephens Co., Tx.  He is buried in Breckenridge Cemetery, Stephens Co., Tx.

From my research Scedora and her father William Newton McKinney lived at least 9 years in Dublin.  I found in the 1900 census for Fannin Co, Tx.  that her parents (W. N. McKinney and Mollie McKinney) and two siblings (Theodora and Elmer) and W. N. McKinney's brother Andrew McKinney born Alabama.  Resided in Fannin Co., Tx before 1900's to ?.

William Newton McKinney born Dec. 1, 1866 in Lincoln Co, Tenn, and he died Dec. 15, 1937 in Dublin, Erath Co, Tx.  He is buried in Cottonwood Cemetery, Erath Co, Tx.  He married a Mollie.  I don't have much info on her at this time.  I also have a Uncle that is buried in Cottonwood Cemetery, Erath Co, Tx.  His name is George Samuel "Sedric" Sanders born Dec. 27, 1931 in Erath Co., Tx.  He died March 10, 1932 in Dublin, Erath Co., Tx.  All 7 of Scedora's children were born in Dublin, Erath Co., TX.  From the information I have I have concluded W. N. McKinney came from Tennessee to Alabama and then Texas.

The next 6 photographs were submitted by Rex Stephen and are of the William F. Stephen family.

My father Virgil Stephen had given me these pictures many years ago. There is one marked as being William F. Stephen and the other family photo I have always assumed was of his brother John and family. The rest are unidentified. I have also included a copy front/back of a Wells Fargo shipping invoice that was given to me by my father at the same time of the other photos. He commented to me that somehow the shipper and receiver were also related…

These four girls are sisters and all are nurses, which is considered something of a record.  The pretty foursome call Stephenville their home, and are the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Stephens.  The photo was taken early this month when they all were together here for the first time as full-fledged graduate nurses.  Top and bottom respectively are Dorris  and Leone Stephen who recently graduated from Parkland Hospital in Dallas.

From the Stephenville Paper - date unknown

In the middle left to right are Martha and Jane Stephens who graduated in 1934 from Jefferson Davis Hospital in Houston.  They now are working in the Stephenville Hospital.  Mr. Stephen is a former Stephenville business man and is now employed by the Brown and Pearcy Motor Company.
