OWENBY, PORTER,
THOMPSON, TOLBERT
posted by Karen Rogers Bird on Sunday, April 6, 1997
- I am looking for more information about my great-grandmother, Abigail (Abby)
Angeline BRADLEY GREGORY CAMPBELL. I believe that she died in Granbury, Texas,
after having grown up in the nearby Comanche Peak area. She is buried in the
Evergreen Cemetary in Lipan, Texas. My grandmother, Lena Mae GREGORY THOMPSON,
was the daughter of William Walker GREGORY and Abby Angeline BRADLEY. Lena Mae
GREGORY married John Blue THOMPSON. Abby BRADLEY was the daughter of Jesse BRADLEY
whose family came from Mississippi. This family is reported in the 1880 Hood
County Texas Census. Jesse BRADLEY seems to have been married more than once
and I would appreciate any help with sorting out who belongs to whom. My grandfather
has mentioned a name, Nancy OWENBY or Nancy PORTER. I would like some information
about where she fits into the BRADLEY family. I also would like some information
about the GREGORY family. Will Walker GREGORY is said by my family to have died
when he was about 32 years old in January or February of 1915. It has also been
reported by my family that he had a couple of brothers (Ed and Walker GREGORY?)
who lived in the area. Will Gregory's sister was Ida GREGORY who married Neal
TOLBERT. They lived in Lipan, Texas, when I was growing up there. William Walker
GREGORY had three children, Lena Mae GREGORY, Jack GREGORY, and Troy GREGORY.
Jack GREGORY married Mary Ida BROWN and I remember a daughter named Carol GREGORY.
Troy died in a car accident while stationed as a sailor off the coast of California.
My great- grandmother, Abby BRADLEY GREGORY married Carl CAMPBELL after the
death of Will GREGORY. I would appreciate any additional information about any
of the these families. Thanks.

- CLARK, FANNING,
JOHNSON, TANKERSLEY
posted by Ray W. James on Friday, April 25, 1997
- I am searching for more information about some of my ancestors and their
ties to Erath County. Particularly, Isaac J. FANNING (b. 1832 Alabama) came
to Hopkins Co. Texas with his father (Dr.?) John (M.?) Fanning before the war.
He married a woman from Erath County named Mary C. CLARK or Mary Clark TANKERSLEY
(b. abt. 1834 Alabama). I don't know if this woman was a CLARK who married a
TANKERSLEY before marrying Isaac FANNING, because her name is listed in various
ways in the Census, Marriage, and other records I have identified. Hopkins Co.
marriage records (index) shows Isaac FANNING m. Mary C. CLARK on 9/28/1854.
A biographical sketch of Isaac names his wife as Mary TANKERSLEY FANNING. Isaac
and Mary had three daughters. Mary died about 1863 while Isaac was away at war.
Isaac remarried a Hopkins County woman named Elizabeth JOHNSON, "the daughter
of Squire Means of Hopkins County." While I don't have all my records here right
now, I recall that some early census records of Erath Co. list Isaac and/or
his brother living in that County with or near a CLARK or TANKERSLEY family.
I would like to learn more about Mary C. CLARK TANKERSLEY, the first wife of
Isaac FANNING. Thank you in advance, Ray James
